Rhinoplasty in Turkey
Surgery that changes the shape, size or function of the nose. Two search terms matter here and they behave differently: "nose job" is the larger, easier entry point.
Two operations under one name
Rhinoplasty covers two quite different goals that often share an operation. One is appearance: the profile, the tip, the width, the bridge. The other is function: whether you can actually breathe through the nose, which usually comes down to a deviated septum or collapsed internal valves.
Many patients arrive asking for the first and turn out to need the second as well. A nose that looks better but breathes worse is a failed operation, so any competent assessment examines the inside of the nose before discussing the outside of it.
Open, closed, and why it matters less than you think
In a closed rhinoplasty all incisions sit inside the nostrils. In an open rhinoplasty a small incision crosses the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils, allowing the surgeon to lift the skin and see the framework directly. The open approach leaves a small external scar that usually becomes difficult to see.
Patients research this choice heavily, but it is largely a decision about visibility during surgery, not about the quality of the result. The structural work being done underneath matters far more than the route taken to reach it.
What the first month looks like
A splint is usually worn for around a week. Bruising around the eyes is common and typically fades within two weeks, though this varies considerably between people. Breathing is congested at first because the internal tissues are swollen, which is expected and temporary.
The visible result at one month is not the result. Nasal swelling resolves slowly and unevenly, with the tip the last area to settle, and the final shape is generally judged at around a year. Anyone promising you a settled nose within weeks is describing something that does not happen.
Risks and the revision question
Beyond the general risks of surgery, rhinoplasty carries a specific one: the result may not be what either you or the surgeon intended, because healing is not fully controllable. Revision rates in rhinoplasty are higher than in most cosmetic operations, and this is true internationally, not only in Turkey.
Ask directly what the revision policy is, who pays for what, and over what period. Ask before you book, and get the answer in writing. A clinic that cannot answer that question clearly has told you something important.
When this operation is not the answer
- You are still growing. Nasal surgery is usually deferred until facial growth is complete.
- You are bringing a photograph of someone else's nose. Your result is limited by your skin thickness, cartilage and bone structure.
- You need a settled result by a fixed date within the next year.

The everyday term is more common at the research stage, and the clinical term appears later when someone is closer to booking. Both describe the same operation.
Will it fix my breathing?
Only if the operation is planned to. Cosmetic reshaping alone does not correct a deviated septum or a collapsing valve, and in some cases narrowing the nose can make breathing worse if the internal structure is not addressed at the same time.
How long before I can fly home?
This is set by your surgeon, not by a package. Flying with a freshly operated nose and packed or swollen airways is uncomfortable, and the timing also depends on your general clot risk.
When will it look final?
Broadly around a year, with the tip settling last. The nose looks presentable long before it looks final, and photographs taken at three months do not represent the outcome.
